Volleyball takes Second Place

Boys volleyball team members didn’t relax over Spring Break, as they took second place at the Plainfield North Tournament.

On Saturday, March 28, the team took a trip down to Plainfield North to play what ended up being five games, including the championship game.

Their first game was against South Elgin High School. In the match, the scores were 25-20, and 25-18.

Leading the offense for RB, Senior Pete Jansen had nine kills and four digs, and Senior Matt Gehrke added six kills, one ace, and nine digs.

Helping out the team, sophomore Elliot Louthen led the team in assist with 19.

The second game of the tournament was against Hinsdale South, with scores of the games being 25-23, and 25-15. Jansen again led the team. Junior Juan Gomez had a strong defensive showing with eight digs, and two blocks.
           
In game three, RB lost to Joliet Township. In the first game of this match Riverside Brookfield took an early lead of 19-12, but Joliet had a dramatic comeback to ultimately win the game with a score of 28-26.

The second game of the match was also a loss for the Bulldogs, as the now confidant Steelmen of Joliet won 25-21.

The Bulldogs won their semi-final game over host Plainfield North with scores of 25-23 and 25-17. Notable play in this match went to Louthen, who set the pace with 15 assists and two kills

. RB then moved on to championship game against Joliet Township who had defeated them earlier. RB had a close game, and ultimately won the first game with the score 25-23.

This win wasn’t enough to triumph over the Steelmen’s confidence after their comeback victory in game three, and RB went on to lose their next two games with the scores of 19-25 and 16-25.

Jansen again led the team with eight kills, one ace, and seven digs, but it wasn’t enough to gain victory.
           
Currently the team’s record stands at 4-3 with a win against the rival Nazareth Roadrunners on Tuesday, March 31.

RB has a home game coming up against St. Patrick High School.
