Superintendant/Principal Jack Baldermann resigned at a special School Board session on Sunday night, two days before a highly contested board election. The current school board voted 6-1 and accepted Baldermann’s resignation, which becomes effective on June 30th 2009.
The resignation announcement has come at a very controversial time, with an upcoming board election, and amidst numerous articles about Baldermann’s lapse in certification becoming public.
The resignation agreement states that after his resignation from RB, Baldermann will be required to fulfill a minimum of ten and a maximum of thirty days of service to RB as an independent contractor over a four month period.
For these services, Baldermann will be paid his current salary of $904 a day. His health insurance benefits will also be given to him for one year, or until he finds another job.
Current board member Jim Marciniak was the only one to vote against accepting the resignation.
According to the Landmark, Marciniak stated, "None of this needs to happen. None of these additional monies going out the door at this difficult time for our finances needed to happen. Jack Baldermann's making us do it. What would the real honorable end be? Resign, leave. Sign an agreement that you're not going to sue us, but there's a few more dollars to be extracted here. That's what happening with this agreement."
Baldermann informed RB teachers and staff about his resignation at a special faculty meeting Monday morning. He thanked them for their hard work and praised RB’s accomplishments during his eight years in school administration.
None of the RB administrators have given any official comment concerning the Baldermann resignation.
