Make-up days for flood announced

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
●Columbus Day, Pulaski Day are school days
●1:15 p.m. dismissal on Conferences
●Possibly school on day before Thanksgiving
●School looking to waive one day

The five days that were missed due to the flood during the week of September 15th are going to be made up. Columbus Day, October 13th, is going to be a regular school day for students. RB will also be in session on October 30th, but only from 8:00 A.M. to 1:15 P.M. This day was originally supposed to be a non-attendance day due to parent-teacher conferences. These conferences will still be held on October 30th, but after 1:15.

Two days are also being taken away in the spring. Casmir Pulaski Day, March 2nd, will be a full day for students, as will April 24th, which was originally a non-attendance day.

Superintendant and Principal Jack Baldermann is applying to the Regional Office of Education and the Illinois State Board of Education to not have to make up the fifth day of school that was missed. If RB does have to make up the last day that was missed, then students will be in attendance on November 26th, the day before Thanksgiving. This decision will be made in mid-October.

These days that are being made up will not affect the winter or spring breaks. This was a concern from the RB community. Also, no days are being added to the end of the year in June. All the days mentioned are one-day holidays or non-attendance days.

Another option that was discussed after the flood was to move finals after winter break. Strong reactions came from the parents, teachers, and students because the majority wanted finals to be before winter break. The dates of the first semester finals have not changed.

Not all of the school is open after the flooding. The basement that was hit hard by the flooding is not completely open. The locker room has been re-opened, but the weight room and wrestling mats in the basement remain closed. Expect these to remain closed until November.
