From December 28th to January 8th, social science teacher Adam Gibbons took 27 students on the trip of a lifetime. He was joined by Fine Arts Department chair Jon Grice, Spanish teacher Jessica Cartledge, and social science teacher Tricia Tepavchevich.

The visited countries were Italy, France, and Spain.

“When we first arrived everything was just kind of a blur. We were all very tired and jet-lagged but at the same time we all had this feeling like, ‘Wow, we’re in Rome’,” said junior Katie Wade. The students arrived in Rome on January 29th and left on the morning of January 31st.

“Rome was absolutely amazing,” said junior Mia Corpuz. “It was just kind of surreal that we had to take it all in in what essentially was one day.” The group toured around Rome and visited attractions such as the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and the Vatican City.

“Florence was incredibly beautiful,” said junior Charlie Rock. “It was so easy to see even with the poor weather.” While in Florence, the weather was very rainy and chilly. “I’ve never seen New Year’s done quite like that either,” said Rock. “The fireworks were overwhelming and at times I felt as though I was in danger.”

On January 2nd, they left for Nice with a scheduled stop in Assisi, Italy.

“The drive from Italy to France was hands-down the most scenic drive of my life,” said junior Stephanie Weiss. “It was so pretty. You would look left and see the Mediterranean Sea and then look to the right and see these incredibly majestic mountains.” The drive from Florence to Nice took roughly eight hours.

“We didn’t stay in France for very long, but it seemed like it was just one view after another,” said senior Margaret Fuener. “Nice and the view of Morocco were just breath-taking.” In France, the group visited Nice, Avignon, Provence, and the medieval town of Carcassonne before heading off to Spain.

“Barcelona was really cool,” said junior Emily Hejna. “The Prado Museum was not disappointing. It was fascinating to see all these masterpieces in one building.” While in Barcelona, the group enjoyed artwork of the Prado and Reina Sofía Museums.

On January 6th, the group arrived in Madrid after a nine hour bus ride and a quick stop for lunch in Zaragoza.

“Madrid was by far my favorite place,” said Weiss. “It was so full of life and had its own completely unique culture.” Students visited the Royal Palace of Madrid and saw an authentic Flamenco show.

“The Flamenco show was so cool,” said Feuner. It was amazing how fast they could move their feet!” The show was held at the Corral de la Moreria.

“Overall it was an amazing trip,” said Gibbons. “I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a great time.”
