The Varsity Cheerleaders competed at the state competition on February 6th and 7th at Illinois State University. They placed seventh out of 57 teams in their division.
“The first day we competed without two of our top tumblers [due to a conflicting gymnastics regional meet] and we still managed to squeeze into the top ten. The next day we moved up three more spots,” said senior captain Nicolette Sabatino.
The Bulldogs have been successful throughout their season, not just at state.
“We did really well this year. We started off with a first place in our first competition,” said senior Corie Suzuki, another captain.
Although there are a few basketball games left for them to cheer at, this past competition marked the end of their competitive season.
“It’s sad that it’s over. I’ve been on cheerleading for four years, but this year was the best. However, we saved our best performance ever for last, so it was nice to go out on a good note,” said Sabatino.
