As RB searches for an interim superintendent, a familiar face is currently filling the spot. In an unscheduled board meeting held on April 14, the current members of the school board voted unanimously to hire former District 96 Superintendent David Bonnette as a leadership consultant. Bonnette will work as needed until June 30. There was some public criticism of the board meeting as newly elected board members; Matt Sinde, Mike Welch and Dan Moon were not included in any decisions made.
Bonnette is not serving as interim superintendent, but is being considered for the position. Bonnette served for 13 years as the superintendent for District 96.
District 96 includes all Riverside elementary schools, Hollywood Elementary and Hauser Jr. High School.
He retired in 2005. He then went on to teach educational leadership at Northeastern Illinois University and served as interim superintendent in River Forest District 90 for the 2007-2008 school year.
“It’s really great to see him back,” said junior Emily Chapman, who attended Central Elementary and Hauser Jr. High during his years there. “I remember seeing him around school and he always had a smile on his face. He was always such a nice guy, and as kids we all loved him.”
